How Ideal Weight is Estimated
There is no single "correct" ideal weight — different formulas developed over decades give slightly different estimates. This calculator shows three commonly used approaches side by side.
Why do the three methods disagree?
Each was derived from a different population sample at a different time, using different assumptions about what "ideal" means. None is objectively correct — they're different estimation methods, which is why comparing all three gives a more honest picture than trusting a single number.

Why muscle mass changes the picture
None of these formulas account for muscle mass, frame size or body composition — they're based on height alone. A muscular or athletic person can weigh noticeably more than any of these estimates while carrying low body fat and being perfectly healthy, since muscle is denser than fat and adds weight without adding health risk.
