How Marks Percentage is Calculated
When you have several subjects with possibly different maximum marks, the correct overall percentage is based on real totals, not an average of each subject's percentage.
The formula
Percentage = (Total Marks Obtained ÷ Total Maximum Marks) × 100
Add every subject's marks obtained and maximum marks, sum both columns separately, then divide.
Why not average each subject's percentage?
Averaging per-subject percentages equally only gives the same answer as the totals-based method when every subject shares the same maximum marks. If one subject is out of 100 and another out of 50, a simple average would let the 50-mark subject count just as much as the 100-mark subject, which distorts the true overall result — this calculator always uses the mathematically correct totals-based method.
