How Tile Quantity is Calculated

Tile estimation comes down to three numbers: your room's area, a single tile's area, and a wastage allowance for cuts.

Step 1: Room area

Room Area (sq ft) = Length × Width

Step 2: Tile area

Tile sizes in India are specified in millimetres. Converting to square feet: Tile Area = (Length in mm ÷ 304.8) × (Width in mm ÷ 304.8). A 600x600mm tile works out to about 3.87 sq ft.

Step 3: Tiles needed, with wastage

Tiles Needed = (Room Area ÷ Tile Area) × (1 + Wastage %)

The result is always rounded up, since you can't buy a fraction of a tile, and boxes needed is the tile count rounded up to a whole number of boxes based on tiles-per-box.
