About This Unit Converter
This tool converts values between common metric, imperial and India-specific units across six categories: length, weight/mass, temperature, area, volume and speed.
Why conversion goes through a base unit
Converting every unit pair directly would require a separate conversion factor for every possible combination, which grows quickly as more units are added. Instead, your entered value is first converted into one fixed base unit for that category (e.g. metres for length, kilograms for weight, litres for volume), then from that base unit into your chosen target unit — needing only one factor per unit, not one per pair.
Why temperature is handled differently
Length, weight, area, volume and speed all convert by a simple multiplication factor, since their scales start from a shared zero point. Temperature scales don't share a common zero — 0°C, 0°F and 0K represent different physical temperatures — so Celsius, Fahrenheit and Kelvin are related by offset formulas rather than a simple multiplication factor.

Notes on Indian land-area units
- Bigha isn't a standardised metric unit — its exact size was set independently by local custom and revenue administration in different regions, so it varies significantly by state. This calculator uses an approximate value of 2,529 square metres, but always confirm the exact local conversion (which can range from roughly 1,000 to over 6,000 sq. m depending on the state) before relying on it for legal or revenue purposes.
- Guntha (also used in parts of Maharashtra, Karnataka and Gujarat) is approximated here as 101.17 square metres (1/40th of an acre), which is the most common definition, though minor regional variation exists.
- For legal land transactions, always verify area conversions against your state's official land revenue records.
